2. Prepare the patient for blood pressure:
Make sure that the patient relaxed until 5 minutes before the first reading. To get the most accurate reading the patient should sit upright with their upper arm positioned so it is level with their heart and feet flat on the floor. Remove extra cloths that might interfere with the BP cuff or constrict blood flow in the arm. Make sure the patient refrains from talking to anyone during the reading of blood pressure.

6. Inflate the Blood pressure cuff:
Begin when the pumping the cuff bulb as you listen to the pulse sounds. When the Blood pressure cuff has inflated enough to stop blood flow you should not hear any sounds through the stethoscope. The gauge should be 30 to 40 mmHg above the person’s normal Blood pressure reading. If this value is unknown then you can inflate the cuff to 160 – 180 mmHg.

7. Deflate the Blood pressure cuff:
When you are using a manual monitor then you will get the most accurate reading if your arm is held straight.
